Maag Bloodaxe, born in 1362, is the second of the three
daughters of the Orc High-Chieftain Krug Bloodaxe and Alwyn, daughter of
Sagga of the Black Horse Tribe. Maag is the close confidant of her grandmother,
Magga, high-priestess of Magrish, Goddess of the Plains, and often acts as
the eyes and ears of her grandmother in Orc lands and elsewhere. She is the
most subtle of the daughters, the most mature and probably the most content,
having discovered her vocation early in life. She is also less prone to direct
confrontation although she can hold her own in melee. She is the plainest of
the sisters being shorter and broader than them and is often unkempt.
Krug sent his second daughter at the age of 14 south to spend a year at the
Elven Court in Galathril. In practice Maag, who has little interest in politics
and dislikes formality, spent most of her time in the north of Galathril
with an Elven druidic group who called themselves Elad Malan, 'Children of
Nature'. The Elves were delighted with Maag and with the blessing of the
Court initiated her into their lower level rites and secrets. They underestimated
Maag's natural gifts and perceptiveness, however, and she came away knowing far
more about the group than they would have desired. This included the knowledge
that for centuries the Elad Malan had been used as scouts in the North
and were experts at passing unseen across the Plains.
Maag's favourite occupation on the Plains became detecting and surprising
members of the Elad Malan who have had to acknowledge that out of
the forest environment Maag is the superior tracker and stalker. Maag is already
something of a legend in the Orc lands and is particularly popular with the
common Orcs who she aids and heals as she travels about the Plains.
Krug's enemies rightly fear her, however, as she has a reputation for appearing
out of nowhere. She also appears to have inherited her grandmother's ability to
control the weather. Maag is a friend of
Vaarth Shadowspawn who has a
professional respects her abilities.
Maag travelled with her grandmother to Marineldol but insisted on living off
the land in the countryside and only met up with the diplomatic party every
few days. She feels safe travelling alone because of her animal companion, Rark,
a large wolf, and the fact that she has a natural affinity with all animals,
even for a Druid.
