Prince Erainion Nalkalven is the second son of King Caldor III of Carandor.
Born in 1362 he has, like his brother Eldric, been given the best education
in statecraft and warfare that money can buy. This has given him a bearing and
seriousness beyond his years. His father has seen to it that
their is no rivalry between his two sons and the Nalkalven family which includes
Caldor's brother Allayn and his family are close. The lessons of a fraticidal
feud in the family 300 years ago have been well learnt.
Caldor and Eldric have been frequently out of the country on campaigns in recent
years leaving Allayn as the de facto ruler of Carandor. Erainion, who is
Allayn's favourite nephew, has been given increasing responsibility by his
father and uncle. Keen to secure Carandor's eastern borders Erainion was charged
with negotiating a formal treaty with the Orcs. This he accomplished with
much elan sweeping aside the more xenophopic opinions of those in the realm who
objected to such an arrangement.
It was while on a return courtesy visit to the Northern Plains that, much to
the embarrassment of the Orcs, Erainion was kidnapped. Many of his party were
killed in the incident and the Prince was taken to Xul-Jarak where he narrowly
escaped being sacrificed in a ceremony to mark the rise of
Thrull. He ensured that the adventurers who
rescued him were well-rewarded and continues to support their activities in
the North (including arguing against using them in the war effort). He realises
that there is unfinished business in that part of the realm including dealing
with the renegade Baron of Skeffington. The strain on the kingdom imposed by
the war, however, means that he can spare few resources to deal with the problem.
