The Order of the Golden Light has always had far fewer adherents in Reetland than
Cambria. This is partly because somewhat surprisingly the number of refugees from
Sankhar that settled in Reetland was for various reasons only half of the number
that settled in Cambria and partly because tensions with
the Pelorean Church have meant the order has had
a less settled relationship with Reetland society in general.
Historically the monks of the order have not had a dispensation to avoid paying a tithe to the Pelorian Church, unlike
their colleagues in Cambria,
which given the cool attitude towards them by the latter has always rankled some of the Order's supporters and
also been a financial drain. It was somewhat of a surprise therefore when the current King, Saradoc, gave them
the financial relief that they had long campaigned for at the beginning of his reign - an action which caused much displeasure in the Church itself. Outside of the
Church the Order is generally well thought of through all ranks of society and in recent years has begun to attract
quite a few recruits of non-Sankharian descent.
The headquarters of the Order is at Carlinster castle which was given to them in a slightly run down state by a sympathiser and which they have very carefully restored. This is situated some miles north of the actual town of Carlinster. Members
of the Cambrian branch of the Order are always given a warm welcome if they visit.
