The Red Thorns are a society of arcane magic wielders who were formed in response to
King Burgred's deployment of the
Geogoths. Their symbol is a thorn covered in blood and
they often appear in red robes.
Very little is known about the society
apart from the fact they attack the Geogoths and steal any magic items they may have
confiscated. If they then returned those items to their original owners they
might have some support amongst the common folk but it would seem that they make no
effort to do so. Worse than that they often go on raids themselves to obtain magic items
and can be more violent than the Geogoths if the owners are uncooperative.
Many mysteries surround the Red Thorns; they often appear at the same time as the Geoguth which
suggests they have informers on the inside of the army. The
Red Asps seem to have made little headway in identifying who
their leaders are or how they are organised. Those who have survived their attacks say they
seem to be mostly young men and that they are very dependent on magic items. It is surprising,
however, that they also steal religious magic items that they would appear to have no use for.
They have certainly hardly done the reputation of magic users much good in the eyes of the
populace.
