Unlike the other humans of Miredor the Chaialla arrived in Miredor before the
Great Darkness. indeed according to the Elves they were the first men to wander so far west in Sudland. They have a squat unlovely appearance and despite their active lifestyle both males
and females are apt to develop a paunch. They are roughly the same size as Dwarves but cannot be mistaken for Dwarves
as they are virtually hairless, particularly on the crown of their heads although the older males tend to grow a scraggly beard. They also disdain most clothing and instead heavily tatoo their bodies.
The Elves tolerated them because they were not evil and indeed have a reverence for the 'Queen of the Earth' who the Elves believed to be a female representation of
Elebrin Liothiel. They also chose to settle in the Emyn Din (aka Hills of Wum) which was up to that point an unihabited area of Miredor.
The diet of the Chaialla is strictly vegetarian and they have an excellent knowledge of all plant life and its medicinal and culinary uses. However they also distil poisons from the plants they gather and use poison darts to ambush those they believe have invaded their territory. As a result they are both feared and despised by the other human tribes in Miredor particularly as their tactics are to avoid melee combat at all costs and their uncanny skills in the wild enable them to melt into the countryside after an ambush.
Travellers in Emyn Din are advised to keep to the main trails and above all to not venture in any territory guarded by the squat stone statues of themselves that the Chaialla set up to warn off trespassers.
