Maven's Folly is one of the largest and most prosperous towns in the
The Waste (this isn't saying much).
What it has going for it is that being on the
Mountain Hall road regular patrols of
Dwarves pass through the settlement bringing some order to the area as well as boosting the profits of the local inns. It also has a mayor, a town council and some reasonable profitable businesses not least in the body parts
of the strange monsters that roam the Waste.
The 'law' in the town is provide by the Mayor and its rough and ready nature is indicated by the fact that he was chosen for his large size and knowledge of how to wield a heavy club. In general, however, a lot of things which would
be illegal in Cambria are legal in Maven's Folly. The Mayor's policy is that anything
that happened further than five miles from the village is of no concern of his and that includes murder which
is not so unusual in disputes over highly valuable monster carcasses. He frequently has to use his judgement as to
whether to detain an offender in the town's jail as 'The Rules' as laid out by the town council are very often
lacking in detail.
Further the only citizens who have 'rights' are
those registered with the Mayor and up to date with their local tax. Impoverished refugees fleeing from
Cambria freqently end up as indentured servants.
The town is supported by several local farms and small holdings although the above average rainfall make growing
many crops difficult. Sheep, cattle and goats are kept but have to be carefully guarded not just from stray
monsters but also wolves. The Dwarves keep a friendly eye on the town and the fact that the Mayor knows he would
be able to call on them for help if need be stops the more dubious elements in the town from gaining control. Members of the North Star will also aid the Mayor if they are in the area.
