Lest

Lest is a small port on the Tangara Naji which would be of little significance but for its position on the trade route between cities like Shrel Kain and Riavod and the South. Warehousing in Lest is considerably cheaper than in the bigger cities so many merchants tend to store goods here until they feel the demand is right elsewhere.

Lest also acts as a trading post for the Marwhini of the Southern Plains. The population of the port is variable - in the summer the number of visitors in the port almost always exceeds the resident population of Kenzin traders and local fisherman. In the winter the number of visitors is small and three of the ports six inns shut completely.

The mayor and the Harbourmaster are the chief officials in the port which is a tight well run community. The Harbourmaster is charged with noting all trade passing through Lest even though no duty is levied on the cargos of the ships that dock. Small docking fees do, however, apply and pay for the upkeep of the harbour.

On a small bluff overlooking the port is a statue of a sea serpent said to have attacked the town over 900 years ago and sunk several ships in the harbour.
