Odin

Odin is the great Battle God of the Skandiks but also the God of Knowledge. He is also known as Wotan the All-Seer, the Skyfather and One-Eye. Legend has it he hanged himself off the World Tree and sacrificed one of his eyes to gain the wisdom of Gaia. It is said among the gods that there is no other who knows the will of the world so well as Odin. Odin is also known as the chooser of the slain picking those worthy warriors who died in battle to join him in Valhalla. Although originally revered by the Skandik people his worship has spread throughout the Wilderlands and he has major temples in Quitak and Tarantis (where he is also known as Woten).

Some might consider it strange that a barbarian battle-god is worshipped by city-dwellers but his city clerics have taken to emphasising moral as well as physical courage. They also point out that courage in the face of evil is just as necessary in a city as in the wild. Another attraction of Odin's worship is that his temples will frequently (almost always in small towns and villages) have shrines to the other gods of the Skandik pantheon, Freya, Heimdall, Thor etc. Thus as head of this pantheon his worship is seen as being for all occasions and for all members of a family. Ravens are sacred to Odin and supposedly bring him news of what is happening on Oerth. Odin's symbol is an open blue eye. He is said to frequently appear on Oerth as a beggar and thus his followers are slightly more charitable to beggars than many. One of the oldest and most sacred temples to Odin is in the Skandik kingdom of Croy and it is the centre of many pilgrimages by his worshippers. Attacks on such pilgrims by pirates from Ossary are currently a source of outrage to the temple.
