The worship of the
Paldorian
God of the Sun, Adorak Tau, is one of the two predominant
religions of the city state of
Tarantis. Adorak Tau is usually depicted
as having a single eye in his forehead from which he can emit a ray which slays unbelievers.
It is rumoured that the jewel set in the forehead of the huge statue of the god in the Temple
of Adorak Tau in Tarantis has been magically enchanted to mimic this function.
Daily meditation and worship of the sun is required of believers as well as weekly
attendance of services at the Temple. Every month a Sun Dance is performed by the God's
handmaidens which are chosen from the daughters of believers when they reach their thirteenth
birthday. Such service (which lasts for a year) is considered a high honour. However four
of these maidens are chosen for the Twilight Sacrifice on the High Holy Day of Pudage (as the
religion is called). First born sons of believers are also required to serve as Altar Boys
from their fourteenth to sixteenth birthdays and from the most promising of these the
priesthood is chosen.
Perhaps because of the element of human sacrifice the majority of the worshippers of
Adorak Tau are Lawful Evil although the religion encourages its members to support each other
and many are Chaotic Good. Believers must contribute a tithe of their income to the Temple.
