Gheulost Island is a large island in the Trident Gulf which is of great strategic importance
to Viridistan as it is the only site in the known world where
Carbelium is found. As a result it
is heavily guarded by land and naval forces and it is considered treasonous to reveal anything
about the island. Ships which approach the island without authorisation may be sunk
without warning.
The population of the island mainly consists of
Elephan miners and their guards. However, other miners may
be there because they have been sentenced to forced labour by the Viridistan courts. Many
consider this a death sentence because the miners never return due to the brutal environment
in the mines. Even the hardy Elephan Cavemen will only work the mines for a month at a time
due to the toxic nature of Carbelium itself. They then spend a month in Viridistan before
returning to the mines and rarely remain in the south more than a year before returning
to their homes. There are known to
be other civilians on the island providing services to the army base but their exact
status is not well understood as they are not allowed to leave the island.
