The worship of Asmodeus was made legal in
Westcrown in -369. At the time the case attracted very little attention and both the advocates and the judge
seem to have taken the view it was about humouring the whims of some rich eccentrics. The first chapel to Asmodeus was not built to some 54 years later and
again none of the general population noticed at the time because, although it was richly appointed, it was not of excessive size and was in
any case tucked away in a corner of the noble's district of Regicona.
The first temple to Asmodeus on the mainland was built in -251. Again while much money was spent on its design it was not gaudy nor built
as large as nearby temples to Pelor. A feature of its congregation was the number of tieflings
it attracted. Although the founders of Westcrown had set out to welcome all races to the city they had only partly succeeded in their
goal and tieflings were still very much an underclass. The tieflings themselves although welcomed
to the community who worshipped Asmodeus subsequently found it hard to break into the leadership roles and are very much used as
enthusiastic underlings and enforcers.
The priesthood of Asmodeus who dress in expensive red and black robes are fond of complex rituals often involving animal sacrifice and a
display of arcane magic. Those wishing to advance in the hierarchy or to advance in society with the aid of the Church have to sign lengthy
contracts with severe penalties for those not keeping their side of the bargain. Many of Asmodeus's chief worshippers, however, are never
seen in his temple on the mainland and the average citizen would probably be shocked by how many followers he has on the
Westcrown City Council.
