As far as history goes Damkina is a sage's delight. Not only does its history go back
over 12,000 years but as far as we can tell at this early stage its city records
are intact (and magically preserved) for the whole of this period. Its history therefore
could only be published in several thick volumes after a lifetime of research! In addition
one hopes that the records we have at our disposal will unlock not only the history of
the region but also the history of the whole Wilderlands.
To summarise what we know so far the important dates we have are:
- -7943 Damkina is founded as an official colony of Kelnore
- -7441 The Empire of Kelnore is founded
and Damkina becomes the capital of its Northern or White Province
- -5622 Prince Bran of Damkina marries the daughter of the Emperor and becomes Emperor
himself fifteen years later. His younger son then becomes the White Prince so it looks
like the Northern Province had become a hereditary fiefdom at this stage.
- -3881 BCCC - Damkina follows the Ghinorean successor states in seceding from
the Empire. Anarius is elected the first Overlord by a council of nobles.
- -2896 BCCC - Great Northern War. Damkina allies itself with the
Elephan Cavemen to defeat an army of horsemen from
the south (Tharbrians?)
- -2589 BCCC - Damkina pays tribute to the Dragon Empire
- -1977 BCCC - Damkina ceases tribute to the Dragon Empire
- -1586 BCCC - The Great Flood. Damkina and its outlying villages barely survive
- -1314 BCCC - The Market Treaty establishes the rights of surrounding villages and
barbarian tribes with respect to selling their goods in Damkina market. The implications
of the details of the treaty are that Damkina had already by this time lost control
of all lands further than 30 miles from the city.
- 203 BCCC - First contact with merchants from Valon.
- 256 BCCC - Treaty with Valon bans the sale of Avalonian slaves in the Damkina market.
- 479 BCCC - Damkina pays tribute to Viridistan. This arrangement appears to have lasted
a mere five years.
- 1625 BCCC - The building of the Closed Temple
- 2015 BCCC - 'Skandik Invasion of Damkina'. 200 Skandik warriors arrive in Damkina
but are eventually disarmed after the Overlord threatens to arm all the other barbarians in
town
for the market. The Skandiks eventually sign the Market Treaty although they subsequently
only come to the Market sporadically.
- 4433 BCCC - Present time. The effective rule of Damkina does not extend beyond the shores
of the Vast Lake.
