Cuttle is the only human settlement of any size on Mediogalti Island apart from
Ilizmagorti. Having said that it is little more than a ramshackle collection of buildings forming
a village along a beach at the edge of the jungle. It came into being to support a whaling operation in the Western Ocean with
the founders quick to pay off the Red Mantis to leave them alone. That said
everyone in the village suspects that at least some of the shopkeepers who supply the whalers works for the assassins as
spies.
The village not only supplies the whalers with all their needs and entertainment but also renders their catch. The Red Mantis are
paid off not in cash but in casks of whale oil.
