Brimmingstone is one of the oldest towns in
Cambria having been founded over three hundred years
before St. James founded the kingdom.
For a long time it was the most western settlement of the Reets but
in -297 it was excluded from the formal borders of Reetland together with other smaller communities west
of the mountains. Under the Cambrian kings however it has flourished as it the largest town on the road
from
Pell's Hold to
Reetland.
The town is surrounded by a sturdy wall and property is expensive by Cambrian standards with many of it lower
paid workers living in the surrounding villages. The population is about 6,000 with much the same racial mix as
Pell's Hold. The town has many ancient rights which have been confirmed by successive rulers including the right
to hold four fairs a year (now held outside the walls) and a system of byelaws which in effect means it has its own
legal system. It has a Mayor who is elected by all male and female residents over age 21. The Mayor has wide raging
powers including the the responsibilty for appointing magistrates. Elections for Mayor are held every four years.
In addition to the Mayor councillors are elected to support him by the various Guilds and interest groups within the
town.
Although the town is situated in the prosperous Eastwood province the Lord of that province has no jurisdiction
over Brimmingstone. The Mayor, however, is not part of the King's Council and traditionally prevails upon the Lord
of Eastwood to represent the town's interests in the Council.
