An ominous and brooding calm hangs over the 'city' of Birjani, one of the famed
Holy Cities deep in the desert. Besides the
Viridian occupying forces the racial mix
of the inhabitants and pilgrims consists almost entirely of those normally considered evil
or monstrous with many of the races being bitter enemies. Other races tend to shun this
entrance to the caverns. Some conjecture that the
unnatural calm on this streets is due to the exceptional and peculiar nature of the
individuals from these monstrous
races who most would be surprised to find
seeking an audience with the
Mycretions. Other say that despite their apparent
absence from the community
the Mycretions
themselves have extensively infiltrated the settlement.
Whatever the reason for the unexpected lack of violence on the street it is certainly not due
to the occupying Viridians who have total contempt and disinterest in the citizens and pilgrims.
If violence does erupt the troops mainly ignore it, short of a fullscale riot,
in which case they rain down carbelium arrows on all within the vicinity until order is
restored. The leader of the Viridians here designates himself the 'Hordmaster' and is known
to sometimes demand attractive females as a 'toll' before he lets parties enter the caverns.
The entrance passageway to the caverns divides quickly with confusing multiple junctions that are
monitored by the Mycretions and the pilgrims are rapidly dispersed. Surprisingly the
supplicants seem to frequently include a smattering of pilgrims from the far away
Demon Empires.
